RECENT EVENT RECAP
Walpole Book Celebration: Bridging the Years
March 7, 2026 | Walpole Public Library

What a special morning. Friends, families, students, and neighbors gathered at the Walpole Public Library to listen, laugh, and share memories. The stories shared by our seniors reminded us why Storykeepers exists.

We are especially grateful to the seniors who generously shared their stories: Allan, Diane, John, Joyce, and Linda. Your voices are the heart of the Walpole Storykeepers book, and we’re honored you trusted us with them.

Thank you to the Walpole Public Library for hosting and welcoming the Storykeepers book into their Local History Collection. We also deeply appreciate the Alzheimer’s Association for helping raise awareness and support their mission to end Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and Vistaprint for the beautiful banner that brought the event together.

Most of all, thank you to the seniors and everyone who attended. Moments like this, hearing stories, connecting across generations, and celebrating our community, make everything we do at Storykeepers meaningful.

We were thrilled to see the Walpole Hometown Weekly highlight our event. Their article beautifully captures the spirit of the morning and the voices of our seniors.

Celebrating Senior Stories at the WPL

The stories from our elders are one of the ways life lessons get passed down, but what happens when those people are gone? What made them into the people we cherished? A lot of people don't think about this until it's too late.

Local high school students Aaron Arora and Aneesa Maity have a mission in mind -- to preserve the stories of our senior citizens.

Together, they founded the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Storykeepers to listen and preserve the stories of our elderly. They talk to senior citizens in Walpole, Medfield and beyond and record their stories to compile in a booklet. They have secured a national partnership with the Alzheimer's Association, preserving the memories of these people while helping to raise awareness and funding for Alzheimer's research.

Recently, Arora and Maity were at Walpole Public Library to mark the release of their community book for Walpole. The pair donated a copy of the booklet to the Library for anyone to be able to read and experience these stories. Along with light refreshments, Arora and Maity explained their mission behind the nonprofit. While everyone celebrated the work they have put in, they emphasized it wasn't about them; it was about the people whose stories they captured.

Some of the senior citizens in attendance at the event were there to read their personal stories that appear in the booklet. There was Allan, a local man who shared his experiences before World War II, being young at the start when it was all happening before signing up later in life.

Through that, he credited respect and understanding as the key to a good marriage, and emphasized the value in curiosity and connection of others are important.

"There's always something someone else knows that you don't, and it's nice to learn from that point," Allan said. It was a reminder to all that we can learn a little from everyone.

Another standout was Mary Diane, or just Diane to everyone. She shared her experiences as a nurse, finding a passion for it in high school while volunteering. She valued connecting with her patients, being there for them and getting to know them through their difficult moments. Her belief in herself is what kept her going, because to her, there was nothing more important.

John, who was celebrating his birthday, shared the stories of growing up with a lot of sisters, working at a grocery store and becoming a local comfort for many people. His last words to the crowd were, "there's not enough love in the world," and hopefully we all can change that.

Preserving the lessons and stories from our elders creates a link to the past we often don't think about.Cherish those stories you hear, learn from them.

Be sure to check out the booklet "Their Stories" at Walpole Public Library, and keep your eyes out for what the Storykeepers do next.
